Landscape Design Intern

General Description:

Arco is seeking a qualified landscape intern to support our design team with luxury site design for private clients and design-build residential projects, on a budget. Candidates should have knowledge of a range of planting within low to midrange, with a modern typology. The intern will assist in the development of technical drawings to be used for civil engineering to complete their drawings and allow further development of the landscape design and plans for construction. The intern will participate in replacing trees, working in caliper replacement for the local tree permitting application. They may participate in client meetings to support the design team in understanding the client’s view, proposing choices, and presenting final plans when clients are involved.  The candidate will work collaboratively with other team members and departments in coming up with design strategies. Candidates should display excellent design communication skills, both verbally and in writing. By the end of this internship, our goal is for the intern to have gained extensive knowledge in various aspects of the landscape design and build process. This is a full-time position with a rate of $15-$18/hour.

Specific Tasks and Duties

  • Communicate and coordinate drawings with other Project Consultants.
  • Assist in research of the selection of plantings, materials, and general specifications.
  • Assist in creating specific landscape plans with technical notes for contractors.
  • Assist in creating rendered landscape plans for actual and proposed landscape projects.
  • Assist in proving landscape strategies that include trees, vegetation, and hardscaping.
  • Assist in the filing (electronic and/or paper) of information.
  • Assist design team in visiting sites, taking measurements, or analyzing site conditions.
  • Assist the design team by providing Construction Administration team or landscape contractors in the ordering of plants or materials.

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree or advanced degree in Landscape Design with a minimum of a previous cooperative internship for at least (1) semester.
  • Experience with AutoCAD required. Knowledge of Revit, Photoshop, InDesign, and Sketch-Up preferred.
  • Strong knowledge or desire to research and provide designs with the use of local plants and vegetation for this specific zone.
  • Required to work on multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment and work in cross-functional teams.
  • Must possess strong and effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and organization development skills.
  • Experience with Mavenlink in a plus.
