Interior Design Intern

General Description:

Arco is seeking a qualified intern to support our Design team with creating luxury residential design for development projects and private clients. The intern will assist in researching, designing, and selecting cabinetry options, finishes, fixtures, lighting, and other materials used for private clients and development projects.  Candidates are to have excellent sense of transitional or modern design.

This position will assist our interior designer that specializes in kitchen, bath, and storage design. This position will require one to create technical drawings to be used in fabrication or construction. The intern may participate in client meetings.  They will support the design team in understanding the client’s view, proposing choices, and presenting final plans.  The candidate will work collaboratively with other team members and departments and display excellent communication skills, both verbally, and written. By the end of this internship, our goal is for the intern to have gained extensive knowledge in various aspects of the design process and gain significant knowledge in designing and specifying luxury kitchen and bathroom designs under a budget. This is a full-time internship with a rate of $15-$18/hour.

Specific Tasks and Duties

  • Provide general drafting assistance, redlines, detailing, as-builts, as required.
  • Assist design team in visiting sites, taking measurements, craftsmanship supervision on finishes /punch list.
  • Assist lead designer in the selection of finishes and fixtures as well present your own design schemes and finish selections
  • Work on-site with the Assistant Project Manager in providing specifications and installation guidelines for installation.
  • Assist with preparation of drawing sets for permit applications and for contract documentation.
  • Communicate and coordinate drawings with other Project Consultants.
  • Research and support in the selection of finishes, materials, fixtures, and general specifications.
  • Assist in the filing (electronic and/or paper) of information.
  • Organize the materials library and source new products

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Interior Design with a minimum of a previous cooperative internship for at least (1) semester.
  • Experience with, AutoCAD and Photoshop a must. Revit, InDesign, and Sketch-Up are desired skills.
  • Knowledge or experience working in kitchen, bath, or cabinetry design is desired.
  • Required to work on multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment and work in cross-functional teams.
  • Must possess strong and effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and organization development skills.
  • Experience with Mavenlink in a plus.
